Jury Convicts Catoosa County Man in Violent Domestic Assault Case on All Counts

RINGGOLD, GA – A Catoosa County jury has convicted Shane Murray Bowling, 53, of Aggravated Assault, Family Violence Battery, and Discharge of a Firearm Near a Public Street following a brutal attack on his girlfriend earlier this year.

After a pre-sentence investigation, Judge Melissa Gifford Hise sentenced Bowling on October 22, 2025, to 22 years, with the first 15 to be served in custody.

Upon release, Bowling must complete a Family Violence Intervention Program and undergo a substance-abuse evaluation.

On January 17, 2025, Catoosa County Sheriff’s Deputy Bryce Walker responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired at a residence.

As he approached the home, Deputy Walker heard shouting and a heavy thump from inside.

Entering the residence, he found Bowling standing over the victim, who was lying on the floor bleeding from her face and head

Investigators determined that Bowling fired a pistol into the front yard from the porch and then held the handgun to his girlfriend’s head, threatening to kill her if she did not comply.

He knocked her out of a chair, slammed her face into the floor repeatedly, and dragged her into the home by her hair, where the assault continued.

Deputy Walker forced entry through the front door, stopping the attack.

Deputies later recovered a loaded 22 revolver with one spent casing from Bowling’s bedroom.

Bowling’s mother, who was inside the home, reported hearing the assault take place.

The case was investigated by Deputy Walker and Detective K. LeeAnn Moody of the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Both investigators, the victim, and Bowling’s mother testified at trial.

The prosecution team included Jennifer Jackson, who assembled the initial file; Annabell Carter, who assisted with jury selection; and Shelby Armstrong, who provided Victim Witness support throughout the case.

District Attorney Investigators Christy Smith and Daniel Thacker were instrumental in gathering and organizing the evidence. The case was tried by Assistant District Attorney Michael E. Harty.

District Attorney Clayton M. Fuller issued the following statement: “When you go through the process of stratifying humans at the lowest levels there are cowards, then 50 feet of crap, and only then do you get to men who brutalize women. In the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit, we warehouse these pathetic life forms in prison for a long time.”
